The council’s youth services has received a £3,000 grant from Cycling UK as part of the Big Bike Revival initiative.
Dr Bike is visiting parks in Sandwell to fix children’s bikes this autumn.
Children’s bikes can be taken along to any of the sessions where an expert will spend a maximum of 30 minutes repairing and giving bikes safety checks including looking at breaks, gears, tyres. No booking is necessary.
Councillor Joyce Underhill, cabinet member for best start in life, welcomes the project. She said: “More and more people are taking to riding bikes and I am delighted, thanks to Cycling UK, we can deliver these sessions to help families.
“We have already run four sessions in August where dozens of bikes have been checked and mended. Please arrive on time for the session to avoid disappointment as they have been very popular.
“We are already looking at extending the project to include recycling bikes, working with schools as well as delivering further Dr Bike sessions in the future.
“Dr Bike will check bikes for family groups and we really hope these sessions will encourage families and children to cycle more.”

- Victoria Park, Tipton – 6pm – Thursday 17 September 2020
- Brunswick Park, Wednesbury – 6pm – Wednesday 23 September 2020
- Britannia Park, Rowley Regis – 6pm – Thursday 24 September 2020
- Jubilee Park, Tipton – 6pm – Wednesday 21 October 2020
- Victoria Park, – Tipton – 6pm – Thursday 22 October 2020
- Brunswick Park, Wednesbury – 6pm – Wednesday 28 Oct 2020
