People in Sedgley are backing Fairtrade Fortnight with a host of activities taking place.
Fairtrade Fortnight is the annual campaigning fortnight of the Fairtrade Foundation which this year runs from 24 February to 8 March.
The theme of this year’s campaign is ‘She deserves Fairtrade’ focusing on the need to provide a fair wage for farmers and producers in developing countries.
Dudley Council is a Fairtrade Council. It supports Fairtrade within the authority and promotes events run by the borough’s two Fairtrade towns – Stourbridge and Sedgley.
The council will be hosting a pop-up exhibition in the council house during the fortnight and will also be supporting the national campaign’s call for a fair income for all, women in particular.
On 15 February there will be the annual Fairtrade Coffee Morning at Sedgley Community Centre. Fairtrade refreshments will be served throughout and there will be a craft and food stall.
The Mayor Councillor Stanley will attend the event and will present the prizes to the winners of an awareness raising poster competition. The winning images will later be on a display at Ladies walk Centre, for publicity in shops and throughout Sedgley.
On Friday 28 February from 10.30am there will be another Coffee Morning at All Saints Church. The church will also hold a special Fairtrade service on Sunday 1 March with special stalls selling Fairtrade produce.
There will be another Fairtrade service at St Andrews URC Methodist Church on 8 March.
